Joys of Journaling

"Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision-message is a witness pointing to what's coming."

— Habakkuk 2:2-3 (MSG)

If you've found your way to this page, chances are you're curious about how God speaks through dreams — and how to hold onto what He says.

For me, the single most important tool in that journey has been journaling. Over the years, it's become the discipline that has most shaped my ability to recognize God's voice in the night. I don't want to miss what He's communicating, and the best way I've found to honor those messages is to write them down, give them a name, and pray over them.

Details matter in dreams. Colors, emotions, directions, objects — what seems small is often what God is most specifically saying. Journaling helps me capture all of it before it fades, and it gives me something to return to as God slowly reveals meaning over time. Some dreams have taken months — even years — to fully understand. But because I wrote them down, I didn't lose them.

There will be mornings you wake from a vivid dream with no clear sense of what it means. That's normal. The interpretation doesn't always arrive immediately — it comes through prayer, patience, and returning to what you recorded. Journaling keeps you from dismissing those dreams too quickly.

More Than Dream Journaling

Recording dreams is just one of the joys of keeping a journal. Browse the Journaling Tips & Tools category on the blog for practical ideas to deepen your journaling practice — whether you're just starting out or looking to go further.

And if the idea of journaling doesn't quite fit your personality, that's okay too. Reach out and let's talk. God wouldn't give you dreams without intending to give you understanding — we just may need to find a different way to help you seek it. Whatever you do, don't shrug off what God is saying to you in the night. He is speaking. The goal is simply to listen — and remember.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."

— Matthew 7:7-8
