"Snake" in the Grass Dream

Dreaming of someone else is often a reminder to pray for them. Everybody needs prayer. Nancy may never know what God was protecting her friends from, but what we do know is God is always watching out for them. If you wake up having dreamt of other people, from friends or family members, start their day off with a prayer.

Nancy Griffitha

Bangalore, India

In my dream, I'm seeing a photo of a friend, her brother and a few of her close friends. Five people are sitting on the ground in the green grass, smiling and posing for the picture. I recognize two of them. One is a friend and her brother and they are with three of their friends.

There is a small pond in front of them with snakes in it. One snake is on top of another. Like a python, they are twisted and to the left side, there is a snake sitting up and staring at them.

I’m looking at the picture and disgusted at the snakes and wondering how they can smile (it’s real heartfelt smiles) while snakes are in front of them. They have no fear or disgust with a snake staring at them. They didn't look like they were bothered by them at all.

There was a caption under the photo that I don’t remember exactly but something like “a rare picture with the snakes.”

End of dream.

Insight:

Photo: It captures a moment in time. Making memories. It can reveal where the heart is.

Python: Symbolic of Satan and his demons. A snake is a predator, a pretender, full of deceit. It could be symbolic of a group of individuals in their lives.

A python will eventually cut the breath out of its prey. They should be careful Satan doesn’t try to stifle their spiritual growth. “Satan is out to steal, kill, and destroy.” More snakes, more venom, a greater chance of influencing them.

Grass: Symbolic for “green pastures.” Psalm 23. A place of  enjoyment. The group is comfortable in their surroundings and they don’t realize or don’t care that the enemy has joined them.

“Snakes in the grass.” Because the snakes are in the open they appear to be harmless. Warning. Be careful who they are welcoming into their lives and surrounded by. Are these individuals pretending to be their friends?

In similar fashion, Satan didn’t hide in the garden from Eve. He was in the open and as depicted in this dream, the snake was staring at them. Sometimes the enemy is right in front of us. The Bible says to be as shrewd as a snake. Shrewd means “astute or sharp in practical matters: keen; piercing.

Satan “is set out to corrupt our minds. “But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” 2 Corinthians 11:3

Pray your friends aren’t outsmarted by the enemy and are discerning the presence of the enemy. Pray they are making wise chooses in the friends they choose. “So that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.” I Corinthians 2:11 (NLT)

Photo caption “rare picture of snakes:” This scene may represent that this type of social gathering in real life may not be a usual occurrence. Meaning, they don’t make it a habit of making bad choices when it comes to friends. Therefore, more reason to take this dream seriously and intercede they make wise choices in friends. Her friends may not be aware of who is trying to sneak into their lives.

The dream may never come true and Nancy may never know because her prayers thwarted the enemy’s plans. Praise God for the dream and for answered prayers.

How often do you wake up and think of somebody else? If you wake up and someone other than yourself was in your dream, pray for them. “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.” I Timothy 2:1

If you want to have a greater understanding of the dream, pray through the scenes in the dream. Ask the Lord for insight and to guide you on how best to pray for your friends. The Holy Spirit will guide you.

  • Lord, what does each symbol represent?

  • Lord, what does this dream mean for my friends?

  • Lord, what am I suppose to learn from this dream?

  • Lord, what do you want me to do with this dream?

  • Lord, what scriptures can I pray for my friends?

Pray for them continually and until the Lord releases the burden. God will work behind the scenes.

Advice: Don’t share the dream with those you dreamt about unless the Lord has given you permission to do so. Let this be a confidential conversation between you and God. Your responsibility is to intercede for them.
